VizNau, Update
Hi all, time for a little update on the Vizion (do you see what I did there?)
First off, I have started using it full time to track my finances, and it’s going swimmingly. I can’t forsee any reason that I would have to start from scratch again with entering transactions etc. so I thought I may as well place some real data in the system to check for bugs and problems that I may not have seen with place holder figures. Fortunately I have yet to find anything major, and have been adding features like there’s no tomorrow (I like to live life like that you know…) Editing transactions after they are entered is now working 100% including changing transfers and the like, which confused me for a little while. I will explain.
Firstly when you enter a transfer it appears on the web in two places (one each in the ‘to’ and ‘from’ accounts) but in the database just the once. Through clever PHP trickery this is handled on the fly, so when I experimented and changed the location a transfer was coming from (which I did from the ’sending end’ if you like) it completely disappeared, and I spent around about twenty minutes frantically trying to get it to re appear. As you can probably figure out this is entirely intended, as the transaction now appears in the new ’sending’ account page, as well as still appearing in the ‘receiving’ account page. Sigh.
Oh well, at least I know it works. I have also been working on the interface just a smidgen, and brightened up the register view, into what you can see below:
The more astute among you may realise the numbers are blurred out, that’s purely for my privacy in this screnshot, not some mind bogglingly bad design decision…
What’s next on the list? Well, I want to get some net worth figures/graphs/charts in action, which shouldn’t be too difficult, so hopefully you’ll be hearing from again in the near future. Famous last words, eh?
