Frequency
No, I’m not referring to the infinitely tedious subject of electromagnetic radiation (this time) but instead asking a question. Well, a rhetorical question anyway. How often is the ideal period to leave between posts? In other words, how often should I update benjaminallen?
I certainly know of some blogs that update many times a day including Mashable, Techcrunch and Engadget which is all well and good, and they do a great job at keeping me coming back time and time again throughout my day. However, I also know of several blogs that update maybe once a day, usually less frequently, and in some ways I prefer this to the constant stream of news I get from the aforementioned floods of opinion. These include uncov and Smashing Magazine. If you want even less frequent update just see A List Apart, although calling this a blog is stretching it a little.
The upside of a blog that doesn’t update so often is that you know you haven’t missed anything. Think about it, if someone publishes five stories a day, and you’re away from a computer for a couple days (God forbid!) then you really struggle to digest everything you’ve missed. If you only miss a couple of articles though, it’s much less daunting to come back and read them, which makes it easier to stay up to speed with things even when you drop behind. Now, obviously, this blog is easy enough to catch up with anyway because of the basic layout etc. but I’m still debating over how often I should aim to post. Daily? Bi-daily? Or go the other way and only post a couple of times a week. Maybe post three or four posts, bunched together a couple times a week?
I really don’t know, but in theory I should be able to update as often as I like, what with my student schedule and all, but does that mean I should? Will what little quality I have deteriorate? I hope not, or the visitors I do get won’t stick around for long. So, keep the quality up and keep the posts up. Argh! It may just kill me, but for you guys… I’m willing to make that sacrifice. Not that I’m likening my self to Jesus (or any other fictional character for that matter) but this is going to be difficult. So you better appreciate it, bitch! Sorry. I’m cracking up already look…
So for now I will do my utmost to post at least once a day for the next two weeks, and see what happens to my traffic. Here’s a hint, I’m hoping it will increase…
